Fluted Beams

Pure Timber's beam and columns are trademarked as "Fluted Beams" after our first product in 2005 - a structural I-beam with a bentwood web between two flanges. In 2019, with the retirement of Gordon Plume, Pure Timber bought the giant beam presses from GR Plume company. We continue to build large curved glulam and steam-lam beams on Gordon's presses, but now in Gig Harbor Washington, instead of Bellingham, Washington. Our steam-lam beams is something a bit different than the glulam that GR Plume built. Instead of bending dry, thin laminations of lumber to make a beam, we build them from other thick beams that we have bent. We steam or compression bend beams from 4x4 to 8x8 in lengths to 20', and stagger these in a glue-up to make a large curved beam. In this way, the beam has a more massive look, without the plywood edge look. Please contact chris.mroz@puretimber.com (1-253-988-2046) to discuss your building needs.
